MIOT Hospitals honors donors and recipients who underwent Kidney Transplant Across Blood Group (at MIOT) on the occasion of World Kidney Day - Press Meet - 08th March 2012.

08th Mar 2012

The World Kidney Day is being observed on March 8, 2012. The theme this year for the World Kidney Day is “Donate Kidneys for Life”. On the occasion of World Kidney Day, MIOT Hospitals proudly announces that it has successfully performed kidney transplants across blood groups thereby addressing the shortage of healthy organs and in turn increasing the number of kidneys available for transplant.

The kidney transplant is normally done within blood groups. The Donor and the recipient usually be of the same group or compatible blood groups. Normally we do not perform blood group incompatible transplantation. But, now path breaking research has enabled kidney transplant possible across blood group. This has been made possible by a Japanese Technology the last 5 years. So far 5 such transplants have been done at the MIOT Hospitals.

The patients are doing extremely well like the normal transplant patients.

MIOT Hospitals on this day – World Kidney Day would like to highlight the benefits of kidney transplant across blood groups.
