PEDICON 2026 Pre-Conference Workshop Successfully Conducted at MIOT International
MIOT International successfully conducted the Paediatric ECG & Echocardiography – Pre-Conference Workshop on 20th August 2026, as part of the Golden Jubilee Chennai PEDICON 2026.
The workshop was formally inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Robert Coelho, Director & Chief Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon, MIOT International. As part of the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Robert Coelho felicitated the faculty for their contribution to the academic programme and training.

Held at MIOT International, Chennai, the focused academic programme brought together around 40 + delegates for a day of interactive learning and training in paediatric ECG interpretation and bedside echocardiography.
Centred on the theme “From Decoding Rhythm to Real-Time Imaging,” the workshop took participants through a structured progression from the fundamentals of paediatric ECG and rhythm interpretation to practical echocardiographic imaging and functional echo at the bedside.
From Decoding Rhythm to Real-Time Imaging
Paediatric cardiac assessment requires an understanding of how ECG patterns change with age, the ability to recognise rhythm abnormalities and familiarity with the fundamentals of echocardiographic imaging. The workshop brought these areas together through a combination of interactive lectures, case-oriented discussions and echocardiography sessions.
The programme covered four key areas:
* Paediatric ECG
* Paediatric Arrhythmias
* Basics of Paediatric Echocardiography
* Functional Echocardiography
Designed for paediatricians, paediatric postgraduates, paediatric intensivists and neonatologists, the programme focused on strengthening practical skills relevant to everyday paediatric cardiac assessment.
Understanding the Paediatric ECG
The scientific sessions began with the fundamentals of paediatric ECG interpretation. Participants were taken through ECG essentials, heart rate, rhythm and electrical axis, followed by an important discussion on how ECG findings evolve across different stages of childhood.
The session also addressed ECG clues to congenital heart disease, providing participants with a structured understanding of important electrocardiographic findings encountered in paediatric practice.
A Practical Approach to Paediatric Arrhythmias
The programme then progressed to the recognition and interpretation of paediatric rhythm abnormalities. Dedicated sessions covered bradyarrhythmias, narrow-complex tachycardia and broad-complex tachycardia, with emphasis on developing a practical and systematic approach to reading the ECG. The role of ECG interpretation in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) was also discussed. A post-test and interactive discussion at the conclusion of the ECG component helped consolidate the concepts covered during the morning sessions.
Moving from ECG to Echocardiography
The afternoon programme shifted the focus from electrical activity to real-time imaging of the paediatric heart covering,
* Subcostal views
* Apical four-chamber view
* Parasternal views
* Suprasternal views
* Systematic segmental analysis
* Recognition of abnormal echocardiographic findings
The sessions were structured to help participants understand not only how to obtain the basic views, but also how to follow a systematic approach while evaluating the paediatric heart.
Focused Learning
The Paediatric ECG & Echocardiography Pre-Conference Workshop provided delegates with a focused platform to strengthen their understanding of two important areas of paediatric cardiac assessment.
By combining structured academic sessions, interactive discussions and echocardiography demonstrations by MIOT Paediatric Cardiologists, the programme enabled participants to connect theoretical concepts with their practical application in paediatric cardiac assessment.
With around 40+ delegates participating, the workshop encouraged close interaction between the faculty and participants. The programme progressed systematically from understanding and interpreting paediatric ECG rhythms to observing real-time echocardiographic imaging and understanding its applications in paediatric practice.
