9th AROI ICRO Clinical Radiobiology Teaching Course (South Zone)

Indian College of Radiation Oncology (ICRO), the wing of Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI), conducted the 9th AROI ICRO Clinical Radiobiology Teaching Course (South Zone) for radiation oncologists on 25th May 2019 at MIOT International.

The course was formally inaugurated by Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, Managing Director, MIOT International along with Dr. V. Srinivasan, Head – Radiation Oncology, MIOT International, Prof. Dr. Manoj Gupta, Prof. & Head – Dept. of Radiation Oncology, AIIMS, Rishikesh and Dr. Sunitha Prabakar, Radiation Oncologist, MIOT International.

More than 100 participants and guests were in attendance to understand radiobiological principles, and know their clinical applications and implications. All these were presented through various interesting modules, keeping the attendants engaged right through the course.

With healthy participation and enthusiasm to learn from those present, the “9th AROI ICRO Clinical Radiobiology Teaching Course (South Zone)” turned out to be a huge success!

9.15 am – 9.30 am Inauguration
9.30 am – 11.15 am Modules: 1 & 2 (Interaction with matter & radiation injury to cells, Mechanism of cell survival curve, Exponential relationship, D10 & D0, Multi-model, L-Q Model)
11.15 am – 11.30 am Tea
11.30 am – 1.15 pm Module 3 (Clinical applications of L-Q models, Normal tissue injury with emphasis to spinal cord BED and its clinical applications, Altered fraction and its radiobiological basis)
1.15 pm – 2.00 pm Lunch
2.00 pm – 3.15 pm Module 4 (Radiobiology of hypofractionation, SRS & SBRT, Factors affecting cell survival curve, HRS & IRR, Dose rate effect, Oxygen effect, Radiobiology of fractionated RT, Intrinsic sensitivity and SF2)
3.15 pm – 3.30 pm Module 5 (4 R’s of Radiobiology, Role of 4 R’s in SRS & SRT, TCP, NTCP, Therapeutic ratio LET and RBE)
