Strengthening Healthcare Beyond Borders
MIOT International has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Kiribati, represented by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, marking an important step towards strengthening healthcare access for the people of Kiribati. This partnership brings together MIOT’s world-class medical expertise and Kiribati’s public healthcare system to ensure patients receive advanced, high-quality treatment beyond geographical boundaries .
Through this collaboration, patients from Kiribati will gain access to specialised medical care across a wide range of disciplines, including cardiac sciences, oncology, orthopaedics, organ transplants, and minimally invasive surgeries. The MoU establishes a structured referral system where patients are identified and referred by the Ministry, ensuring timely treatment, streamlined coordination, and improved efficiency in accessing international healthcare services .
In addition, telemedicine services will enable continuous engagement between MIOT specialists and healthcare providers in Kiribati, allowing for remote consultations, follow-ups, and expert guidance. This ensures continuity of care for patients even after they return home, enhancing treatment outcomes and patient confidence .
Seamless Support and Commitment to Quality
MIOT International will also provide comprehensive end-to-end support for patients travelling from Kiribati, including assistance with medical visas, airport transfers, accommodation, and overall care coordination. This patient-centric approach ensures a seamless and comfortable treatment journey for both patients and their attendants .
Under this partnership, patients from Kiribati will have access to a comprehensive range of advanced medical and surgical services at MIOT International. These include key specialities such as orthopaedics and joint replacement surgeries, cardiac and thoracic care, interventional cardiology, nephrology including renal transplants, urology, neurology and neurosurgery, paediatric cardiac care, ENT, and oncology services including medical, surgical, and radiation treatments .
The scope of care also extends to highly specialised procedures such as bone marrow transplants, bariatric and metabolic surgery, liver transplants, minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeries, oral and maxillofacial procedures, as well as gynaecology and ophthalmology. Additional services may also be provided based on specific patient needs and mutual agreement between both parties .
Training, Capacity Building and Academic Collaboration
The MoU also places strong emphasis on capacity building within Kiribati’s healthcare system. MIOT International will support training programmes for healthcare professionals, enabling knowledge transfer, skill enhancement, and the development of local medical capabilities over time. This ensures that the benefits of the partnership extend beyond individual patient care to long-term healthcare improvement in the country.
A Shared Vision
Overall, this MoU represents a shared commitment to delivering quality healthcare beyond borders. By combining expertise, infrastructure, and coordinated care pathways, MIOT International and the Government of Kiribati aim to significantly improve access to advanced medical services, enhance patient outcomes, and build a stronger, more resilient healthcare system for the future.
