MIOT International Celebrates 27th Founder’s Day
On 12 February 2026, MIOT International proudly commemorated its 27th Founder’s Day, marking nearly three decades of steadfast commitment to delivering world-class healthcare defined by compassion, integrity, and innovation.
Founded on the vision of making advanced medical care accessible to every individual, MIOT International has today earned the trust of patients from over 130 countries. The Founder’s Day celebration served as an occasion to reflect on this remarkable journey, recognise the people behind these milestones, and reaffirm MIOT’s enduring vision for the future of global healthcare.
The celebration witnessed the presence of eminent international delegates from Fiji, Seychelles, Mauritius, Maldives, Cambodia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Tajikistan, highlighting MIOT International’s strong global collaborations and its position as a preferred healthcare partner across continents.
The evening also featured distinguished speakers and thought leaders who shared insights on advancing clinical excellence and addressing complex healthcare challenges, reinforcing MIOT’s commitment to knowledge-sharing and innovation.
Programme Highlights
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, Managing Director, MIOT International, who reflected on MIOT’s founding vision, global growth, and people-led excellence.
He formally introduced the Chief Guest, Hon. Esrom Immanuel, Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Republic of Fiji, underscoring the long-standing and meaningful association between MIOT and Fiji.

In his address, Dr. Prithvi Mohandas reaffirmed that compassion lies at the heart of MIOT’s DNA, inspired by the Founder’s life and philosophy. While advancements in technology, clinical expertise, and global expansion remain vital, MIOT continues to be guided by care that transcends commercial considerations.
He highlighted MIOT’s commitment to delivering advanced healthcare in regions where it is most needed — from sustaining cardiac care services in Fiji to stroke rehabilitation initiatives in the Maldives and Mauritius, day-care surgical services in Seychelles, and critical cardiac facilities supporting neighbouring regions — reflecting MIOT’s belief in serving communities based on need rather than profitability.
The address concluded by reiterating MIOT’s dedication to extending this same spirit of compassion within its own community, setting the tone for the Founder’s Day programme.
A special video titled “Small Heartbeats – Big Life Stories” was screened, showcasing paediatric cardiac care journeys at MIOT and highlighting the impact of early intervention and specialised expertise.
The Chief Guest Address was delivered by Hon. Esrom Immanuel, Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Republic of Fiji, who expressed his appreciation for MIOT International’s leadership and its global contribution to healthcare.
In his address, he highlighted the deep-rooted and enduring relationship between India and Fiji, founded on shared history, values, and mutual respect, and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to strengthening this partnership through economic, cultural, and healthcare collaboration.
He acknowledged MIOT International’s remarkable 27-year journey from a specialised orthopaedic centre to a globally respected healthcare institution recognised for medical excellence and compassionate, patient-centred care.
Emphasising MIOT’s impact in Fiji, the Honourable Minister noted that the Open Heart Surgery Programme has enabled over 389 patients to receive life-saving open-heart surgeries, while 676 patients have benefited from advanced cardiac procedures, including angiograms, stenting, peripheral interventions, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. He also highlighted MIOT’s continued deployment of specialist teams and the strengthening of cardiac services that have significantly improved access to critical care for Fijians.
He further commended MIOT’s collaboration with local partners, including Fiji Care Insurance Limited and Aspen Medical, noting that these partnerships demonstrate how effective public-private collaboration can deliver sustainable, high-quality healthcare to remote and underserved communities.
Looking ahead, he stated that the Government of Fiji welcomes the continued expansion of MIOT’s footprint across Fiji and the wider Pacific region, viewing it as a vital contribution towards building a resilient, self-sufficient, and sustainable healthcare system.
Concluding his address, the Honourable Minister congratulated the MIOT leadership and team on their achievements and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to deepening this meaningful partnership in the years ahead.
Honouring Dedication and Excellence
A key highlight of the celebration was the recognition of outstanding contributions by members of the MIOT family. Beyond the Call of Duty is awarded for exceptional commitment and service beyond expectations. Outstanding Performance certificates recognising consistent excellence and dedication in patient-centric care. These honours reflected MIOT’s culture of teamwork, leadership, and a deep sense of responsibility towards patients and society.
Advancing Care Through Knowledge and Innovation
The programme featured insightful presentations addressing critical areas of healthcare:
- Children’s Heart Disease – Challenges & Care, presented by Dr. Robert Coelho, Director and Chief Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon, MIOT Centre for Children’s Cardiac Care.
- Scarless Surgery, an overview of advanced scarless and minimally invasive surgical techniques by Dr. Arun Mitra, Head & Neck and Thoracic Onco Surgeon.
These sessions underscored MIOT’s ongoing commitment to advancing medical science while keeping patient outcomes at the centre of every innovation.
A Moment That Touched Every Heart
One of the most moving moments of the evening was a dance performance by Baby Yazhnila, a heart surgery survivor treated at the MIOT Centre for Children’s Cardiac Care in association with CHIME – Children’s Heart Internationale MIOT. Her performance captivated the audience and received resounding applause, standing as a powerful testament to resilience, hope, and the life-changing impact of compassionate healthcare. Baby Yazhnila was warmly felicitated with a special gift by Master Advik Mohandas.
The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Mallika Mohandas, Chairman, MIOT International, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests, international delegates, medical professionals, and staff members whose collective efforts continue to shape MIOT’s journey of excellence.
With a workforce of over 3,000 dedicated professionals, MIOT continues to build on its strong foundation of ethical practice, clinical excellence, and global outreach. Founder’s Day 2026 was not only a celebration of MIOT’s past achievements, but a reaffirmation of its commitment to shaping the future of global healthcare one life at a time.
