Inauguration Ceremony of MIVS (Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery)

04th Apr 2014

Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery

MIOT Hospitals has performed approximately 51 minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. Minimally invasive valve surgery has a great advantage over Conventional open surgery:

Conventional Surgery Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery
Blood Loss 700 ml Blood Loss 200 ml
Days in Hospital 10 days Days in Hospital 5 days
Cutting of the breast bone and therefore increased healing time and increased pain. No Cutting of bone. Less pain, quick recovery.

Minimally invasive valve surgery evolved over the last 15 years. Keyhole incisions are used. Endoscopy is used and special equipments allow heart valve surgery to be performed without any bone cutting whatsoever. There is less pain, faster recovery and excellent cosmetic result.

Rheumatic valvular heart disease is common in young patients in India and in these patients repair of the valve via minimally invasive surgery enables quick recovery. Repair of the valve is far superior to replacing the valve in young patients. If you replace the valve, you will need lifelong blood thinning medications which have various complications and side effects. After repair of the valve, these medications which thin the blood are not required.

MIOT Hospitals has state of the art equipment and theater and will be showcasing these surgeries in a live workshop both on 4th and 5th April, 2014. More than one hundred cardiac surgeons from all over India and neighboring countries are attending this workshop followed by LIVE surgeries and panel discussions.
