TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic valve Implantation)

This advanced technique of replacing the aortic valve in patients considered high risk for surgical AVR, is available at MIOT. The valve loaded on a catheter based technology is deployed in a cath lab, in a matter of minutes, thereby avoiding an open heart procedure, At present, this procedure is recommended for patients considered high risk for a surgical procedure especially those who are elderly and have co-morbidities. This technology has been available internationally for about a decade and has produced good results. The patient is discharged from the hospital in 4-5 days.
