MIOT Workshop on Good Lab Practices in Phlebotomy
The clinical laboratory plays an increasingly important role in the patient-centred approach to the delivery of healthcare services. Physicians rely on accurate laboratory test results for proper disease diagnosis; it is estimated that more than 70% of clinical decisions are based on information derived from laboratory test results. The process of blood testing, also known as the “Total Testing Process,” begins and ends with the patient. Hence this phlebotomy course for healthcare professionals will support them to implement Good Clinical practice in the pre analytical examination phase for enabling accurate diagnosis.
This two day workshop is focused on delivering the basic principles of specimen collection and handling, safe practices in phlebotomy, common pre analytical errors encountered and best practices to minimize them to avoid inaccurate diagnosis, quality assurance and understand the consequences to patients and their own safety from improper sample collection practices. There will be simulation based training of blood collection and live demonstration of phlebotomy and pre analytical automation.
