Cardiac Transplantation

In end stage heart failure, other surgical options as mentioned above will not be suitable for recovery of function of the heart. In such cases, the option of heart transplant can save a patient with end stage heart failure.

Heart transplant requires extensive work up to assess suitability for such as operation. Lifelong immune suppressive medications are required for heart transplant patients. This can lead to various side-effects and other diseases. If patient cannot tolerate these medications, then LVADs (left ventricular assist device) are an option for these patients.
